Who Napped it Best?
NOT DOING THINGS
Celebrities—they’re just like us, right?
No, not really, but this will help to ease the red carpet envy a bit.
Though they may always look glamorous when you see them on the big screen or scrolling through your Instagram feed, the truth is, being famous can be downright exhausting. And sleep isn’t always a number one priority. Between training, long days on set, back-to-back appearances and jetting across the country on a whim, sometimes public figures just have to grab a snooze whenever and wherever they can. Need proof? Here’s a hilarious roundup of famous politicians and entertainers caught napping in unfortunate, and sometimes inappropriate, situations.
Who can forget when supermodel, cookbook author and TV host Chrissy Teigen nodded off during the 2017 Oscars? Luckily, her sweet husband John Legend was there to lend her a shoulder to sleep on. Host Jimmy Kimmel provided parachutes of candy and cookies halfway through the four-hour long show, but the sugar-high just wasn’t enough to prevent the new mom from snoozing through several presentations. In true Chrissy fashion, she hilariously tweeted once she finally awoke from her short slumber: “just woke up what happened.”
It’s not easy being Yeezy. The guy stays busy these days, juggling his bustling music career, growing clothing line, presidential ambitions and Keeping Up with The Kardashians (quite literally). So, it’s really no surprise that he and daughter North West were recently found catching a quick nap while out furniture shopping with family and friends. Wife Kim Kardashian was around to snap and share the cute pic, with a caption that read: “So today we went baby shopping with @johnlegend & @chrissyteigen Kanye & North were a little too quiet. We found them passed out in the middle of the store (emojis) #TheRealLifeOfPablo” Side note: This store is sleeping (no pun intended) on the opportunity if they haven’t already asked Kanye to be their spokesperson.
Before going into retirement, there’s proof that legendary Shaquille O’Neal really did leave it all on the court. The 7’1 superstar open-mouth passed out traveling back from NBA training camp, and Boston Celtics guard Nate Robinson decided to take full advantage of the candid camera moment. Laughing and pretending to feed him cookies, teammates Paul Pierce and Marquis Daniels snapped a photo for social media. This started a hilarious prank war between the two pro basketball players, showing their friendship extended beyond the jerseys. Knowing Shaq, the retaliation was probably equally as public and embarrassing.
Back in 2011, cameras caught then-U.S. Vice President Joe Biden nodding off to sleep while his boss was delivering a speech on, no big deal, saving the nation's economy. As President Barack Obama chatted through statistics and policy goals for 30 minutes, his right-hand man simply couldn’t fight the sleep nod. It sparked an amusing discussion, with many joking that Joe completely stole the limelight. Hilarious? Yes. Understandable? Also, yes. It appears the woman behind him may have also found the talk less than captivating.
Model and actress Cara Delevingne once fell asleep getting her hair and makeup done before a big runway show. And you better believe someone from her team whipped out their phone to film it. To be honest, we think it seems like a very fitting time for a cat-nap. It brings a whole new meaning to ‘beauty sleep’. She saw humor in the situation, posting the video to her Instagram and even leaving the sound on for her hilarious snores to be heard. Afterwards, during a Vogue interview the actress admitted: “I fall asleep everywhere!" and "I am literally jet-lagged all the time." Can we also give props to the woman applying her mascara? That’s skill!
Likewise, actress Goldie Hawn must have found getting ready for the 2017 Golden Globes a little too relaxing as well. She took a quick nap, in what seems to be a very uncomfortable position, while her glam squad worked their magic. Like Tiegan, Delevinge and the many others before her, she laughed it off and posted the funny picture to Instagram, with a caption that read: “super pumped for the Golden Globes.”
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Of course, the notorious RBG had to make the list. The Supreme Court Justice very notably dozed off during President Obama’s lengthy State of the Union address in 2016. At the age of 83, I suppose we could cut her some slack. Even better? When asked about it, she claimed it was because she pre-gamed with too much wine, saying: “I vowed this year just sparkling water - stay away from the wine - but the dinner was so delicious it needed wine.” We have to wonder if that’s her secret to aging like a total bada**.
Actress Jessica Biel was caught getting some shuteye on the way to her husband Justin Timberlake’s birthday party earlier this year. The snooze session was revealed by none other than JT, who took to Instagram captioning a video of her: “Gotta work tomorrow for my bday (birthday) so wifey really going all out tonight…” Jessica later justified her nap in the comments section, writing: “A girl needs her beauty sleep before you HIT THE CLUB.”
Actor Morgan Freeman appeared to fall asleep during a four-minute TV interview with his colleague Michael Caine. It does seem pretty apparent. Afterward, he put out a public comment that read: “I wasn’t actually sleeping. I’m a beta tester for Google Eyelids. I was merely taking the opportunity to update my Facebook page.” Well played, Mr. Freeman, well played.
So, you should never feel guilty about taking your own little afternoon siesta again. Hopefully, it’s just in a more appropriate setting. Want more of this hilarity? You can rest assured (no pun intended) that these won’t be the last VIPs caught on camera and called out for napping.
Did you know?
A clear indicator of sleep deprivation is if a person takes less than five minutes to fall asleep.
